The second issue was that of the restoration of the AEC Regal which I guaranteed would
Not return to the UK but would remain in Malta where it has actually spent the majority
of its life all be it not in service. The Regal has been now taken over by George Said who
has guaranteed that this project will be completed in my life time. That is provided on
course that I do not get run over at a truck rally in the UK in the coming years!
When in advancing years it becomes rather an obsession to think that you can leave your
mark but although I intend to continue to worry you all for many more decades to come I
believe I have left my mark in Malta.
The continuance of the Truck Rally and the completion of the Regal remain one of my
highest personal priorities and if I ask anything of the Maltese people it is to continue to
provide the commercial and private support that I have gratefully received over the past 3
years. George Said and the MHVT both personally and collectively remain pivotal in
protecting vintage commercial and military vehicles as their contribution to Malta's rich
motoring heritage. Such commitment will allow our grandchildren and their children to
wonder how we ever survived the invasion of the internal combustion engine.
However, I will continue to contribute my efforts in both the successful development of the
Truck Rally as I will with the restoration of the Regal.
Thank you all so much for your valued support but it is now time to return home hopefully
to make further contributions to motoring history in my native country.
